FAQs
What tools do you use?
For my illustration work, I most commonly use a mix of watercolour, gouache and pencil crayons. For plein-air and painting on the road, I find watercolour and gouache sets to travel quite well. I am not too picky with the brand, though I do have a preference for Holbein gouache paints out of habit since school. My favourite brush is the 1/4” angled flat brush.
What is “gouache”?
Gouache is a type of paint commonly used for traditional animation backgrounds for how flat it paints. It is a mix between acrylic and watercolour. It can be watered down and has the transparency of watercolour, while also can be opaque like acrylic — a quality that is especially useful for going over an area repeatedly. I have white gouache in my watercolour kit for adding highlights and making some colours opaque.
Will you illustrate my story?
Maybe (but probably no unless you are an agent or publisher).
I am generally quite busy and keep to a minimal number of projects a year if they are not my own. I do love to hear a great story and getting to know the people behind them and why it matters to you :)
What is the name of your cat?
Her name is Honey and she is the cutest and most affectionate (needy) grey tabby you will ever meet.
